I made a bunch of calls today.  Most of them I had to leave voice mail.  I expect not to be called back so I'll try again next week.

The most-likely apartment is near a bus stop and is opening May 20.  The manager promised to call me back as the date approached.  I didn't specifically ask but got the impression there is no waiting list.

The very best location has a 3-4 month waiting list.  Well four months ago I was living in my tent, now I'm living in a shelter, so I figure it's worth putting my name on their list.  I'll apply Monday morning.

The place I applied to yesterday had a 2 week waiting list.  I did note my online literature research into aviation safety on my application; the apartment manager should have seen it while we were talking, but didn't mention it.  However she gave me an information sheet that stated that felonies are accepted only if they are ten or more years old.

The 2 week place was in a decent location on a bus line that runs late.  I didn't look inside any apartments but from the outside it looked quite upscale.

One-bedroom rents around here are $600-$750 - in Vancouver; they are dramatically higher in Portland.  I am offered rental assistance up to $1000 including utilities, or $900 if without utilities, plus a $100 budget for utilities.

If I find work - I don't have to - I'd pay 30% of my income.  I'd also pay 30% if I get SSI.

I'm expecting a decision on my SSI application Real Soon Now.

I'm planning to get a bicycle so it would be OK if I wasn't close to a bus stop.

All of the calls I made were for apartments in Vancouver.  I also have a few for Battle Ground and Washougal, but the bus service there is quite infrequent.

I practiced my guitar today.  I can mostly-correctly play A, D and G chords.  I can't really get the C yet but that requires finger contortions that I expect to eventually learn.

The problem for me now is chord progressions.  If I play an A, then a D, I have to pause for a long time while I get my fingers in the right place.  Speed will come with practice - I can vividly recall my very first attempts at playing scales, eventually I could do two hands in parallel motion quite quickly.

It is somewhat cold today but warmer weather is expected soon.  That will help with my guitar as I practice while sitting on a park bench.

Yesterday evening I tried practicing while standing, with the strap around my shoulders.  That's how I'll be playing on the street someday but is a whole different skill.

I still can't play keyboard while standing up, nor can I sing at the piano.

So I have a lot to learn.
