waking up at 545 am daily now. the slow burn has become coals that light my existence. I feed on the dawn of day. like a new club Ive joined, my cousin welcomed me. What is hate? What is love? It seems love is the slow caress of a fall breeze, while hate is the burn of my skin when i've been in the sun too long. Is it the pain in struggle that pushes us on? I love the pain. Life seems meaningless without it.

when the sun comes up. I used to get woken up by the "dawn chorus" of chirping birds (burping churds as my nature-adverse spouse would say), but that doesn't seem to be as loud now. Perhaps because of the feral cats the 'maiden ladies' (as my mother would say) who live around the corner feed.

The kids are long gone, unlikely to return for more than a fleeting visit. Mostly I'm happy with the peace and quiet, but there are still pangs of longing for a life more connected with them.
