Hi, guuuuys.

I am using YTD Video Downloader to take old greek movies off of youtube and show them to my mother in law. Or trying to, really. She has a Sylvania SDVD6670 Progressive Scan Compact HDMI DVD Player and it won't play the avi or mp4 files created by YTD player. Can't figure it out and google-fu has not delivered a good solution.

I think I am asking the wrong question, but anyway: what is the reason it won't read files taken from Youtube and why does converting them to other formats not work? Why are dvd/usb players so finicky buy my ps3 is not?

Ideas anyone?

Most DVD players only play DVDs, not AVIs. Use DVD Flick to create a DVD, with .vob files (and all teh other things you need to be a DVD-Video disc according to the standard definition).

The PS3 is marketed as a media player, so it will play just about anything. The fact that it might be on a DVD-DATA disc rather than the HDD or whatever is co-incidental; doesn't imply a DVD-Video player should play it.

However. I had a similar problem WRT to my Dad's DVD player and anything that was acquired in the MKV format. No matter what I converted to it would not play correctly.

Two programs I use. Not together either one or the other. DVDFlick and DVDStyler. Flick works good with near any source format but is not good with menus. Styler is super fast, you can do a lot of customizing, menu stuff, etc. It crashes a lot though.

Anyway, I take the source and just make a standard DVD out of it. It isn't as space efficient as just chucking the files on a disc or flash drive but so far they work in any player.

DVDFlick Windows only free GPL

DVDStyler Crossplatform free GPL
