	Yes, you heard correctly:  The great state of Mississippi became the final state to officially ratify the 13th amendment just this month, February 2013, perhaps in grudging embrace of Black History Month. Negro slavery is now, and only just now, offically over in the United States of America (I'll wait while that sinks in).  No word yet on what difference this has made on the status of Negroes in Mississippi.

Apparently, this was mostly due to the influence of the movie Lincoln, which evidently got theater play even down in Ole Miss. It looks like the original decision to ratify was passed long, long, ago--well, actually only just in February 1995, 130 years after it was passed--but it somehow got mysteriously hung up in all kind of procedural red tape and other hoo-ha.  Oh well, better late than never. But now to the really pertinent issue:  I wonder, is there a loophole in any of this that might set Crawford free?
