Fuck the Second Amendment

By N0574 in MLP

Tags: USA, gun control, psychopaths, MLP (all tags)

Recent events in schools, movie theaters, and supermarket parking lots show that it's way too easy for the lone psychopath to get his hands on lots of guns and start shooting down good, innocent people. For some reason America has become the only country in the world where that kind of thing happens pretty regularly, where for no apparent reason one minute you can be eating your Denver Omelette and then in the next someone's sticking a gun in your face. Is that the kind of society anyone wants to live in?

{Further questions and a poll inside}

Oh, I know you're going to call me a gun grabbing liberal for saying so but I do think it's time for greater gun control. I don't think we need to completely disarm the entire population, no, I do think it's the "right of the people" (provided they are responsible/law-abiding citizens) to own a gun (and I think one per sane adult would be plenty) in case the need arises to overthrow a despotic government, etc. Still, when any bitter young psycho can get his hands on a trunk full of cheap assault weapons and start using them on us (read: me) it's time to admit something isn't quite right.

And let's face it, the Second Amendment was written for a tiny population that lived by candlelight, wrote with feathers, and wore wigs. They didn't have the kinds of guns that we have. They didn't have the number of psychotics that we have. They didn't have the number of police (more than 800,000!) that we have. In short, the United States is a much different place than it was in the 18th century. Isn't it time we said FUCK THE SECOND AMENDMENT and called on our congressional representatives to have a Constitutional Convention to alter, clarify, or just get rid of it?

And let's face it, (2.87 / 16) (#2)

the First Amendment was written for a tiny population that lived by candlelight, wrote with feathers, and wore wigs.

They didn't have the kinds of assembly that we have. The forums and the sit-ins and the Occupy movement. They didn't have the number of religions, cults, quasi-religions and terrorist cults posing as religions that we have. They didn't have the number of bloggers (more than 800,000!), the twitterers, the instant messengers or the 24-7 cable news cycle that we have. In short, the United States is a much different place than it was in the 18th century.

Isn't it time we said FUCK THE FIRST AMENDMENT and called on our congressional representatives to have a Constitutional Convention to alter, clarify, or just get rid of it? In fact, why stop there? So many of those Bill of Rights are just problematic in today's society. They come from a different age, a different time. Perhaps we should repeal them all.

Do it for the children, do it for society, do it for a Better, Safer, more Utopian AMERICA!

As somebody who is committed to liberty, I of course don't see gun control as an option.

I mean, as somebody who is committed to liberty, I of course don't see securing our schools as an option either. The United States was founded upon a philosophy which doesn't include treating our children like prisoners so that in the off chance a psychotic gunman would have otherwise killed them, they'll be safe.

Life doesn't come without a safety net. No amount of politics is going to change that. You can legislate yourself into a corner but there'll always be ways to get get guns, or creative ways kill a bunch of people. Stab a schoolbus driver in the neck, take the wheel, and drive the bus off a cliff, then. Is that so hard? What do you ban then? Knives? Busses? It makes the notion of trying to legislate a safety net absurd, doesn't it?

The only bleeding heart liberal answer that makes sense is to create a better social support network for families struggling with the sort of mentally challenged individuals who do this sort of thing. It treats the disease, not the symptoms.

Apparently this was posted and attributed to the celebrity, Morgan Freeman. It was not written by Mr Freeman however it addresses part of why all you people who are tripping about guns are entirely wrong. Here is a bit of it and actually it helps if you read it in the calming tones of Mr Freeman:

You want to know why. This may sound cynical, but here's why.

It's because of the way the media reports it. Flip on the news and watch how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are household names, but do you know the name of a single victim of Columbine? Disturbed people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basements see the news and want to top it by doing something worse, and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school? Why children? Because he'll be remembered as a horrible monster, instead of a sad nobody.

CNN's article says that if the body count "holds up", this will rank as the second deadliest shooting behind Virginia Tech, as if statistics somehow make one shooting worse than another. Then they post a video interview of third-graders for all the details of what they saw and heard while the shootings were happening. Fox News has plastered the killer's face on all their reports for hours. Any articles or news stories yet that focus on the victims and ignore the killer's identity? None that I've seen yet. Because they don't sell. So congratulations, sensationalist media, you've just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or a maternity ward next.

You can help by forgetting you ever read this man's name, and remembering the name of at least one victim. You can help by donating to mental health research instead of pointing to gun control as the problem. You can help by turning off the news.

what do you expect (3.00 / 8) (#39)
by Del Griffith on Mon Dec 17, 2012 at 02:58:14 PM EST

from a society of child killers.

168 children killed in Pakistan drone attacks.

Even suicides are now a leading killer of Americans

And finally even a drone operator confirms orders were given to kill children.

And finally even the president has murdered a child.

I think the whole thing is reprehensible to listen to a child killer cry crocodile tears about the slaying of children he just didn't get the chance to order disappeared and killed.  America reaps what it sows, and everyone knows the EMPIRE wasn't built on a PAX AMERICANA but a constant state of WAR & TERROR.

Instead of asking the big questions, why is everyone depressed, why do SSRI's cause people to go on shooting rampages, nobody is going to question big pharma as they are too busy sucking their cock for money.

School shooters are all liberals trying to get guns banned. If you really want to get shit done, guys, you need to get more organized. Daily Kos should distribute a dufflebag of guns and a map of a school to each and every daily kos user, and they all attack in unison. That might finally get the NRA to stand down.

Freedom is not negotiable (2.55 / 9) (#52)
by V on Mon Dec 17, 2012 at 11:56:02 PM EST

The Second Amendment would most correctly be called the First Amendment because all freedoms derive from it.
Getting rid of the most fundamental pillar of freedom is not under discussion because we would stop being free without it.
This basic fact has been affirmed by ours courts countless times and even the Supreme Court ruled about it for the benefit of the mentally challenged population who read the Second Amendment and still wants to ban guns.
Europeand do not understand this facts because they are not free people but subjects.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

note the first four words, which always seem to be forgotten by what we call judicial activists (what constitutional conservatives call those who want to pervert the meaning of the constitution, in this case the judicial activists are the N.R.A.: to sell more guns)

"A well regulated Militia"

let me repeat that, in case it hasn't quite sunk in yet for some of you

"A well REGULATED Militia"

did you get that gun nuts?

You'll never be able to collect all the guns.  You'll never be able to stop a black market from South America that fills in any market needs.  You'll never be able to stop people from manufacturing them at home -- all the equipment for which can be had from the Sears Catalog.

Trying to put a bandaid on a gushing wound won't work.  Grabbing a few guns here and there won't address the problem at all.  That's because the shootings are a symptom of a greater problem, and bandaging the symptoms is ineffective.

The problem is a society producing too many young people who feel there is nothing to look forward to, so there's nothing to lose; a society that presents gang affiliation as the best chance for success; a society that makes the drug trade the most profitable, and often only profitable, choice.

The problem isn't guns.  The problem is the society that produces so many killers.

Sorry, guns only project one bullet at a time. Most maniacs are lucky to kill a dozen people before they are stopped.

You may have overlooked the fact that any teen with moderate means can find the info and materials to make bombs and much worse, such as bio/chemical weapons.

You have seen that legislating marijuana and other drugs simply leads to a plethora of synthetic alternatives. Do you really believe that taking guns from crazies will stop the killing?

How about we identify families and individuals who need help and getting it to them before a tragedy ensues? Or is the expense too great for Republicans to bear?
