My lick won't stick

Also, why hulver isn't in my good books right now.

Poll: do you smoke?

Recently I've been smoking rollups a lot more because I'm still short of cash after Christmas. I've moved from smoking Golden Virigina onto Drum, which tastes about a dozen times better and isn't nearly as dry and skanky. God bless the Dutch. But I've got a problem - I just can't get the bloody rizla to stick! No matter what papers I use the damn things become unstuck after a minute or so, while I'm smoking them. Luckily I roll with only a little bit of tobacco so they're rolled enough times I can still smoke them, but it's really getting on my tits.

Anyway, onto hulver. Goddamn you bastard, I can't get that bloody wiggly worm song out of my head! This is not good. Not good at all.

Last night was quiet. Vicki and Chris went to look at a flat which wasn't any good, which is good because I don't really want to live in a flat. There's a three bedroom place in Colindale I've got to sort out a viewing this afternoon, which has the advantage of being only a single stop away from where Julia lives.

So I stayed at home, had a couple of small chicken and mushroom pies for dinner and read some more of Last of the Renshai. I need some new books when I get paid again I think. Still, this is only the third or fourth time I've read this one I think ;)

Try using less tongue (5.00 / 2) (#1)

Or less spit if that makes sense... try keeping the sticky bit of the paper quite dry... I used to have the same problem, and I think that's how I did it... yeah, not lickin' them much.

Cigarette "machines" (5.00 / 1) (#4)
by Yanna on Tue Feb 12, 2002 at 09:01:27 AM EST

Here they sell a gadget that allows you to actually make a cigarette with filter and everything. You put the tobacco in a sort of little tube, insert a filter (they are sold in boxes by 1000 units), close the "machine", pull a little handle and you have a cigarette. It's a very cheap alternative to brand cigarettes and if you use the right tobacco (Drum is a good one but I personally prefer Javanse Jongens) they taste even better than brand fags.

Could you get one of those in the UK? They are very cheap around here. Say the equivalent to 4 or 5 UKP and it certainly beats rolling (something I could never learn properly).

I hope that freezes your'(sic) and Yanna's smiles into grinning super power morons for eternity. mami

...was to swap brands when that started happening. Rizla don't stick? Move to Swan. swan stop gelling? Back to the Rizla. Yes, I was in tha habit of having a spliff or two before breakfast, but therefore the experience is valuable and should be shared... But if as you say, it matters not which paper you use, try having a good, hot cup of tea beforehand. The brownian motion disperses the non-sticky saliva content, although the tendency to slobber increases.

Drum is a much niceer tasting tobacco, but personally prefer Amber Leaf. Less chemical than anything like Virginia and not so stomach heavy as drum... Still, I'm smoking Marlboro Ultralights at the moment, but I'm down to my last packet. I wish they'd start selling them outside of the States. I'll have to swap to Phillip Morris Super Lights again.

Smells like flowers in here...
Smells like Jasmin...
...Or something....

Papers and such (5.00 / 1) (#9)
by zantispam on Tue Feb 12, 2002 at 09:50:21 AM EST

Though they're a bit on the expensive side, I heartily recommend JOB papers. Yes, they're French. Deal. They're also the best papers I've ever used. I save those for when I have a good yummy moist tobacco.

WRT smoke, one cannot get Drum in the States anymore. Which sucks. I've take to smoking Bali Shag as an equivilant (maybe better) substitue. However, my personal preference is American Spirit. Their pre-rolled are expensive as anything ($4+US), but are dense. Really dense. Like three times the tobacco in the same space dense. And they go out sometimes, which is a plus in my book.

Their site is annoying as fsck. I also don't know how difficult it might be for you to get this across the pond. However, it's worth a try if you can get ahold of some.

This is what I'm smoking now (Rizla papers - I'm saving the JOBs for better tobacco).

yay an option just for me (5.00 / 1) (#12)
by alprazolam on Tue Feb 12, 2002 at 10:21:55 AM EST

so I'm finally quitting (again). Been cutting back since about mid January, and sometime around last Thursday I finished off my last pack and haven't bought anymore. It's odd to quit, even though I've only been smoking (this time) for maybe 10 months or so. Not that hard except for when I'm bored.

I'd have to say my favorite papers are also JOBs, I like the 1.5s for left handed cigarettes. I don't really know the proper way to roll one either though, which is a bit embarassing sometimes. What really boggles my mind is how people roll them with the papers that don't have any of the sticky stuff.

Chemicals (5.00 / 1) (#14)

It's probably all the chemicals you ingest that are coming out in your saliva. It's disolving the paper.

my thoughts (5.00 / 1) (#16)
by evilpckls on Tue Feb 12, 2002 at 12:35:09 PM EST

i dont smoke, but i've rolled a bazillion cigarettes for theatre productions. i used a little rolly machine thing...it cost like a buck, and worked well. its hard to get dry powdery st. johns wort to stay in a joint, but i got the hang of it afterwhile...and the less spit the better, i think...occasionally, licking a finger and using that to wet the paper works best.
